We now have an update about the opening of Mozzeria, the deaf-owned, Neapolitan pizzeria coming to the former Il Cantuccio space on 16th Street (between Guerrero and Dolores). According to Urban Daddy, Friday is opening night, and as we discussed recently, owners Melody and Russel Stein believe it's the first deaf-owned restaurant to appear in a major city in the U.S. Wherever possible, the Steins — who are both deaf — employed deaf contractors to work on the restaurant, and they've even got some deaf dishwashers as well. But fear not: All the servers will be able to hear your order, though some will obviously need to be fluent in ASL too. And if you want a sneak peek, check out one of their benefit tastings this week.
